Software Engineer: Computational Image Analysis

As a rapidly expanding start-up, ScreenSYS is seeking to employ a self-motivated, experienced, passionate, and team-oriented professional to join our company in the role of Software Engineer (f/m/d). The candidate will work closely together with a team of experts in plant biology, data science, machine learning, and laboratory automation.

Your key responsibilities

  • Development & Optimization: Design, develop, and optimize advanced algorithms for image analysis, integrating state-of-the-art machine learning models and computer vision techniques to derive meaningful insights from microscopic phenotyping data.
  • Data Management: Oversee the collection, storage, and management of large datasets, ensuring data quality, integrity, and accessibility for further analysis.
  • Prototyping: Rapidly develop prototypes and proof-of-concept demonstrations to validate new ideas and techniques.
  • Feedback Loop: Implement mechanisms to collect user feedback and iteratively refine the software tools based on feedback and changing requirements.
  • Continuous Learning: Stay updated with emerging trends and advancements in image analysis, machine learning, and relevant fields, and leverage them to enhance the company’s technological solutions.

 

Your qualifications

  • Educational Background: Possess a Master’s or Ph.D. degree in STEM fields, with a special emphasis on computational vision, informatics, engineering, or mathematics.
  • Specialized Experience: Demonstrated expertise in applying both supervised and unsupervised machine learning techniques, preferably within the realm of bioimaging. Familiarity with frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, or similar.
  • Technical Prowess:
    • Proficiency in Python with a track record of hands-on coding experiences.
    • Extensive experience with libraries and tools related to machine learning and image analysis.
    • Proficiency with version control tools, especially Git.
    • Understanding and application of software engineering best practices and agile methodologies, including Scrum or Kanban, with a keen understanding of sprint planning, retrospectives, and CI/CD tools.
  • Team Dynamics: Exceptional team spirit with a proven ability to communicate effectively within an interdisciplinary team setting. Experience in close cooperation within a development team in the implementation, verification, integration and refactoring. Experience in collaborative tools such as Jira or Trello would be a plus.
  • Language Proficiency: Fluency in both written and spoken English, ensuring seamless communication in diverse teams.

 

Advantageous skills

Candidates with at least some of the following demonstrable skills will be considered as a priority:

  • A foundational understanding of biology, aiding in bridging the gap between technology and life sciences.
  • Relational (e.g. MySQL) and NoSQL databases.
  • Understanding of server administration, and performance optimization, for constructive communication with the IT team.
  • German language skills (written and spoken).
